Can the Smoking Ban in Britain Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Web?
by Annie on Aug.24, 2025, under Bingo
Much has been written in the press not long ago about the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to assist in keeping the businesses alive. But can the net adaptation of this quintessential game offer a salvation, or might it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar peer?
Bingo has been an established game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game of late had undergone a recent increase in acceptance with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law all over UK.
Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most common locations where folks enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Players have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Certainly they haven’t deserted this familiar game?
The answer is on the net. People are now realizing that they can play bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and fag and in the end, have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course gambling on on the internet is unlikely to replace the social aspect of going over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of men and women the law has left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
Bingo and Oklahoma: Two Peas in a Pod

Oklahoma has long been analogous with Bingo. That’s owing to the fact that the American Indian bands of Oklahoma have run Bingo sessions for years. Clients from each of the surrounding states pile in cars and head over to Oklahoma to enjoy Bingo on the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) followed a landmark decree by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year prior. Since that time, 23 of the 39 Amerindian tribes located in Oklahoma have introduced gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma Native tribes to take advantage of the gambling restrictions, and today operate 10 gambling dens of their own. Bingo is the game on which these casinos were founded. computerized games such as slot machines weren’t permitted, due to the fact that they’re believed to lead to gambling dependency at a higher rate than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma law has altered to allow for large Native gambling gambling halls. You’ll now find Indian casinos with slot machines, video poker and chemin de fer tables. Craps and roulette are not yet approved in the Native casinos yet, but this is only a waiting game. No one can determine what having different gambling hall games in the bingo houses will do for the draw of bingo.
