Might the Smoking Ban in the United Kingdom Drive Bingo Players On to the Internet?

Much has been talked in the press recently regarding the bingo industry struggling because of the smoking ban in the United Kingdom. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But does the web version of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or might it not compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?
Bingo is an established game usually enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game recently had seen a recent return in popularity with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a weekend. This is all about to change with the enacting of the anti cigarette law around United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be permitted to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public area will not be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite places where players enjoy smoking.
The results of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have dropped and the business is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they have not abandoned this age old game?
The answer is on the net. Gamblers realise that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, have a chance at massive jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course wagering on on the internet will never replace the social portion of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the law has left many bingo players with no choice.
