Will the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Take Bingo Players On to the Internet?

A lot has been written in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hit as a result of the smoking ban in the United Kingdom. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big tax cuts to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But can the internet adaptation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar kin?
Bingo is an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game lately had experienced a recent comeback in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the smoking ban throughout UK.
No longer will players be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public location will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most common areas where folks enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo halls. Profits have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Certainly they haven’t deserted this ancient game?
The answer is online. Players are now realizing that they can wager on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still have a chance at monstrous jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course betting on online can never replace the collective part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
