A lot has been talked in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit as a result of the anti smoking law in the UK. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry afloat. But does the internet adaptation of this classic game provide a salvation, or might it not compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?

Bingo is an ancient game normally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a weekend. This is all about to change with the introduction of the anti cigarette law all over England and Wales.

No longer will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most popular locations where people like to smoke.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Of course they haven’t deserted this age old game?

The answer is on the web. Gamblers know that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beer and cigarette and in the end, enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the web will never replace the collective portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the rules have left many bingo players with little choice.
