A lot has been reported in the press recently regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the internet variation of this traditional game provide a lifeline, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo has been an ancient game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a weekend. Players will no longer be permitted to smoke while marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public areas will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most common locations where many people enjoy smoking.

The results of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Profits have dropped and the industry is absolutely fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Of course they have not forgotten this ancient game?
