Oklahoma has long been interrelated with Bingo. This is due to the fact that the Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have operated Bingo games for decades. Guests from all of the neighboring states load up in vans and visit Oklahoma to play Bingo over the weekends.

The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act followed a landmark decision by The U.S. Supreme Court the year prior. Since that time, 23 of the thirty nine Native tribes of Oklahoma have opened gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma American Indian tribes to take advantage of the gambling restrictions, and at this time run 10 gambling dens of their own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling dens were built on. Electronic games like slots weren’t authorized, because they are thought to contribute to gambling dependency at a higher rate than bingo.

In recent years, Oklahoma law has altered to allow for big Native wagering gambling halls. You’ll now find American Indian gambling dens with one armed bandits, video poker and chemin de fer tables. Craps and roulette are not yet allowed in the Indian gambling halls as of yet, although this is simply a matter of time.
